Abstract:

In any construction activity, the material is an essential component. But in construction, there is a large dependency on man-made materials as compared with materials from natural resources. Manufacturing of man-made building materials emits a large amount of CO2, CO, NO2, and other environmentally unfriendly gasses and by-products which may be poisonous and harmful for human health as well as for the environment. Because of this infrastructure sector is one of the leading causes of environmental degradation. With drastic exposure in population in recent times, the demand for these man-made materials has been increased a lot. To meet this need of the current situation, we have to look for sustainable, eco-friendly materials that have characteristics like energy efficiency, easy availability, and not disturbing towards environment ecology system. The main aim of these green building materials is to reduce the impact of construction activities on human health and the natural environment. This current paper reviews the impact of sustainable green building material on the environment, its properties, and its benefits. Different types of green building material and their characteristics and specifications. In this, a comparison between green building and conventional building on various conditions is also discussed. Further, we have also reviewed U.S. green building rating systems (LEED) and its criteria for certification.

Organisation: Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Manipur
Email: aliansar1994@gmail.com
DOI Number: https://doi.org/10.30780/specialissue-ICACCG2020/026
Abstract:

In this work, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations have been conducted to investigate flow behavior of water in fully baffled stirred tank employed with Rushton impeller. The dimension of the inner rotating fluid zones in Multiple Reference Frame (MRF) impeller model plays an important role in accurately predicting the results on numerically based problems. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to develop CFD model, optimizing the dimensions of inner rotating fluid zone for MRF model (which is a numerical algorithm designed for modeling the rotating part i.e., impeller in stirred tank). Standard k–? turbulence model which is a commonly used algorithm to model the turbulent fluid flow nature in the system is adopted. The velocity profile (radial and tangential velocity) are studied and compared with experimental results of Wu and Patterson (1989) and Rushton et al. (1950).Based on the comparison of correlation coefficient in the predictions of normalized mean velocities, zone 4 having diameter of 0.104 m and height of 0.032 m was found to be optimal for CFD modelling of stirred tank. The global flow parameters such as flow number predicted by CFD matched quite well with the data of Wu and Patterson (1989) and Rushton et al. (1950). The percentage deviation in the pumping number predictions at various radial locations show a percentage deviation less than 15% in comparison with experimental results.

In recent time, nanoparticles of noble metals like gold, silver have drawn a considerable interest of researchers due to their various applications such as in sensors, electronic devices, solar cell, semiconductors, biosensors etc. In the present review article, the main focus is on silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) which are widely used due to their unique properties such as optical, electronic, catalytic properties which are shape & size dependent. The interaction of light with silver nanoparticles can give rise to collective oscillations of the free electrons commonly known as surface plasmons. The surface plasmon resonance band (SPR) for silver nanoparticles occurs in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum and this property has been exploited in a number of applications. This paper highlights the various optoelectronic and sensing application of silver nanoparticles.

Abstract:

In the present scenario, due to the unavailability of power grid in rural areas as well as depleting fossil fuel sources, it causes us to implement newer technologies which rely on renewable energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, etc. As we know solar energy is abundant in the supply and is available during day time in all countries. In this project we are designing and developing a standalone BLDC based solar air cooler. As we know numerous researches has been carried out on irrigation and automotive systems which are power by a PV array and it formed by combining various converters mainly DC-DC and other motor drives, but as the statistics shown, very low work has been carried out in the field of home-appliances. The main challenge while implementing this project is the maintenance of constant speed of the motor. The system consists of the Photovoltaic array which is connected to the sepic dc-dc converter which in turn helps in feeding the VSI and finally supplying the required voltage to the BLDC motor which is coupled to cooling fan of the air cooler. The speed of motor is controlled according to the measured room temperature and switching pulses to the sepic converter is varied according to the temperature changes. BLDC motor is employed due to its high efficiency, high torque to weight ratio and high reliability. The evalution of the proposed system for various temperatures is carried out by simulating the proposed system using MATLAB/Simulink.
